Walk leaders : Malcolm C. and John G.
Walk details : This is a 6 and a half mile circuit starting in Tottington village following the Two Brooks Valley  and its very peaceful, seldom-walked extension north of Hawkshaw village, with fine views of nearby Holcombe Moor. We return via Croitchly Fold hamlet, Holly Mount and Bottoms Hall. Apart from one steep grassy descent it is easy walking on field paths with a few stiles, tracks and country lanes. It is suitable for dogs although there will probably be horses in some of the fields. There is a large free (on Sundays) car park in Tottington. Bring a packed lunch (there is a Coop supermarket at the start).

At the end there are several refreshment possibilities but for drinks the atmospheric village pub The Dungeon with its interesting friezes is probably the best bet (dogs allowed).

For train buffs the walk goes on the track bed of the historic Bury to Holcombe Book line – one of the first in the country to be electrified.

In the event of high temperatures and people feeling uncomfortable, this walk can easily be shortened at several points and a short diversion to a cafe/pub is also possible about half way round.

Risk assessment : A risk assessment was carried out on 09/07/2022.  A summary of identified risks is below:-
There are 4 busy roads to cross and we do have to walk down a narrow but quiet dead-end country lane. A few of the footpaths are little used, rough and stony in places, narrow and in one location above a slightly eroding stream bank. Almost certainly there will be several horses in a couple of the fields. We will alert walkers to these situations as they arise.
Start time and meeting point : Start at 12:00 mid-day from the Tottington Village car park behind The Robin Hood Pub and Coop supermarket. As you reach the village, watch out for the pelican crossing and Coop on the right ahead and turn right  down the side of,  and before,  the Robin Hood (after the Cottage loaf and butchers shops).
The post code is BL8 4AA for the Robin Hood. Grid reference is 776132.
Directions to the start : Leave M66 at J2 following signs for Bury town centre then head for Bolton (briefly) on the A58. After the town centre by the large Toyota garage on the left there are four traffic lanes, you need to be in the 2 right hand ones (not going to Bolton now but marked Tottington on the road surface). After the large B & M store  on the left filter left onto the B6213. After 2 miles you will reach Totty war memorial, park and library on the right, the Robin Hood is shortly after.
