For this year’s Out On Sunday weekend away, the group will be travelling to the picturesque tourist town of Llangollen on the River Dee. This was the overwhelming consensus of group members who attended the recently held First Annual General Meeting of OOS.  The dates have been set for Friday 16 September to Sunday 18 September.

Llangollen is approximately 60 miles from the centre of Manchester. It offers good accommodation opportunities from hotels to B&Bs and has a very good range of cafés, bars and restaurants and guest houses to suit every pocket.

Although Llangollen is a small town it offers very good walking opportunities and a good array of independent shops and interesting places to visit. Highly recommend is a visit to the home of the Ladies of Llangollen at Plas Newydd, just a short walk from the town centre. You might also like to let the train take the strain and take ride on the steam railway and have a lovely afternoon tea. Alternatively you might enjoy a trip on the canal by horse-drawn boat and perhaps visit the world famous spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Planning for this weekend away is in hand. We will reconnoiter two walks for the group and arrange for the traditional ‘Group Meal’. In the meantime you might want to consider booking your accommodation. A front-runner appears to be The Hand Hotel with has more than 50 rooms and is located in the centre of Llangollen. A number of group members have already made bookings at this hotel.  You are free to explore other accommodation venues for yourselves, but a good starting point is the https://www.llangollen.org.uk website. Cliff and Colin also have a list of places that offer accredited accommodation which has been sent to them by the Welsh Tourist Board. Feel free to contact them.
