Dear Members

2019 marks the 21st anniversary of Out on Sunday! The group’s first ever walk was in Heaton Park,  Prestwich, in June 1998 and we are celebrating this anniversary in the park again this year.

Description

The walk will begin at 2pm, followed at 5pm till 7pm by a buffet tea in the Hidden Gem Cafe (part of the park’s garden centre). Julie Proctor, an accomplished,  local violinist,  will be  providing the background musical entertainment this year (she plays in a group called Cassis  Collective, which you can check out on Facebook or YouTube).  You are most welcome, of course, to come just for the walk if you haven’t booked for the tea afterwards.

This is a fairly flat, easy walk around the park. We’ll be stopping off at various points of interest for some  information about them. The walk is approx 3 miles – there are some slight inclines and descents but generally the park is fairly flat. There are good paths, so ordinary walking shoes/trainers should be fine. There are toilets at a couple of places in the park.

Meeting points

There are two options for the meeting point:

Option 1 – Meet David Hibbert at 1.45pm outside Heaton Park Metrolink station (there are regular trams from Manchester to Heaton Park on the Bury line;  journey time from Manchester Victoria to Heaton Park is approximately 12 minutes).

Option 2 – Meet Patrick Pope at 2pm at the pay and display car park, which is 100 yards on the left when you use the St Margarets Rd entrance to Heaton Park (£3 for over 3 hours parking). St Margaret’s Rd is located off Bury Old Road (A665), the  church being a key landmark on it (M25 2QB) . The entrance to the park is about 100 yds on the right
