Description
This is an easy, five mile circular walk that begins and ends at the Visitor Centre. We will walk through part of the Ealees Valley before reaching the edge of Littleborough. From here we will follow a stretch of the Rochdale Canal, passing Smithy Bridge Station en route. We leave the canal to head inland, passing Clegg Hall and back towards Hollingworth Lake via a lane and a field. There is a short, steepish climb near the end of the walk, before we descend to the Lake, a section of which we follow to take us back to the Visitor Centre. Sections of the walk, especially near the end, may be muddy, so walking boots are recommended.
There will be a short stop for lunch at the end of the canal section of the walk, just before Clegg Hall. There is a good cafe at the Visitor Centre, as well as pubs and tea shops around the lake itself.
I hope some of you manage to come along and explore this interesting part of Lancashire. I look forward to seeing you there.
