Description
This week’s walk is a repeat of a walk from last year’s programme. It begins and ends in the lovely Cheshire village of Bunbury and sees us passing along quiet country lanes and through fields until reaching the visitor’s centre at Beeston Castle. Here there is a small cafe where drinks and sandwiches can be bought and there is ample open-air seating. We will leave the castle and return along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal.
The walk is 6.5 miles and almost entirely on the flat. It is suitable for all walkers. If there has been heavy rain, it is likely that stout walking shoes rather than boots are needed. At the end of the walk is the Dysart Arms, where we can stop for a welcome libation.
Start Point and time
The meet-up time is 12:30pm at the east end of the imposing parish church (Bowes Gate Road) – where there is a crescent-shaped lay-by where we can park our vehicles.
Directions to Start
To get to the start point, take the M56 from Manchester travelling in the direction of Chester. Leave the M56 at junction 10 and follow the A49 Tarporley Road in a southerly direction towards Whitchurch. You stay on the A49 for some time and leave only when you see Bunbury signposted. Head for the easily-seen parish church.
