Description of walk
This walk begins at Altrincham Interchange. After passing along some interesting thoroughfares, including Altrincham’s famous old market and St. Margaret’s Church, we make our way to a well-marked footpath which takes us through Dunham Forest Golf Club towards Dunham Town. Here we will have our refreshment stop. Unfortunately COVID restrictions prevent us from taking a festive libation at the Axe and Cleaver, so please bring your own snacks, drinks, etc.
From Dunham Town we return to Altrincham by walking along a scenic section of the Bridgewater Canal. On route we pass Navigation Road tram station which gives walkers the option of ending the walk here if they’ve travelled by tram. For those returning to Altrincham, there might be the possibility of visiting the popular market area for further refreshments – again COVID dependent.
This is an easy walk on well marked paths. That said, we recommend walkers wear walking boots or other waterproof footwear as the route may be muddy in parts.

Changes and cancellation
In the event that there are any changes to the regulations (for example a further lockdown) before the walk, which means that it will not be able to proceed, an email will be sent to everyone booked on the walk. Very occasionally, due to severe weather or another serious event, a walk may be cancelled. In these instances, a note will be added to the website at least TWO hours before Start Time. So, do check the website before you set out, and if in doubt use the walk leader’s mobile contact number.
