Walk title: Hollingworth Lake and Rochdale Canal
Walk leader: Patrick P.
Walk details: This is an easy, mainly flat 5.5 mile walk. It starts at the new Rochdale Animal Centre/Visitors Centre (OL15 0QA), and takes in part of the Rochdale Canal as well as a section of the Lake itself. There will be a short lunch stop at a suitable halfway point, near historic Clegg Hall.
Risk Assessment: Date of risk assessment 06/03/2022
Covid-19: follow current rules.
Weather: it should be reasonable, but be prepared for all weathers.
Roads: there are 2 busy main roads to cross. I will advise of safe crossing points. We will also be walking up a small lane, that traffic occasionally uses.
Terrain: mainly good, wide paths. We will be walking along a section of the Rochdale Canal, but the towpath is wide and very safe. However, you need to be aware of cyclists and other walkers/ joggers on the towpath.
There are a couple of vertical stiles to negotiate near the end of the walk, as well as a short steady climb towards the Lake.
It may be muddy in places if it has rained, so please wear suitable clothing and footwear
Livestock: There is no livestock on the route
Start time and meeting point: Meet at 12.30 near the new Animal/Visitor Centre (OL15 0AQ). This MAY be open by April 3rd.
