Our 18th Out on Sunday weekend away was held at Ilkley, West Yorkshire, between 20th and 22nd September 2024.
The weekend started with 32 walkers meeting at The Black Hat pub in Ilkley. The Landlord of the Black Hat, Tony, gave us a great welcome. I’m not sure if he knew it was ‘Gay Night’ but I think he knew by the time we left!
The main walk of the weekend saw 29 walkers head up onto Ilkley Moor from Ilkley Town centre and then walk across the moor in ideal walking weather. At the top of the moor the group had stunning views across to Wharf Dale. At our refreshment stop we gathered round to sing a rousing chorus of ‘On Ilkla Mooar baht ‘at’, much to the amusement of a chap having his lunch a little further on.
Saturday evening saw 30 walkers gathering for dinner at Bistro Pierre at the Crescent Hotel. The food and drink were excellent, as was the post-meal get together in the hotel bar.
After some free time in Ilkley on Sunday morning 26 walkers rounded off the weekend with a shorter walk along the river Wharf and then into the Middleton woodlands above Ilkley.
