Description
This week’s six mile walk begins and ends at the lovely church of St Oswald in Lower Peover. This is one of the most beautiful churches in England (according to the guide book) dating from 1269, and one of the few surviving churches with a timber frame. If you arrive early it’s certainly worth a look.
From St Oswald’s we make our way down a quiet country lane before taking a long track across some delightful farmland. After a mile or so we cross the busy A50 at the Whipping Stocks Inn, where, if there’s a consensus, we can stop for a libation. From the Inn we enter the parkland of Peover Hall and it is here we will stop for refreshments if you’ve brought them. There are no benches or tables so it is advisable to bring something to sit on.
Close by the hall is another lovely church -This time dedicated to St Lawrence. The church is not generally open to the public nor is the adjoining hall, though the latter can be visited on certain open days.
We continue the walk down bridleways and tracks before rejoining the A50. There is a short section of the walk which requires us to walk along this busy road. Shortly we step over a style at a former public house and then make our way back to Lower Peover along the defined path.
There is a nice pub – The Crown, at Lower Peover which serves good pub grub for those wanting to end today’s saunter with a pint and/or a nibble.

The meet-up time is 12:15 at St Oswald’s church.
Directions to Start
To get to the start take the M56 from Manchester travelling in the direction of Chester. Leave the M56 and join the A556 to Knutsford. Join on the A50 and pass through Knutsford. Look for a signpost for Middlewich and go right on the B5081. Stay on the B5081 until you see at sign for St Oswald’s Church (on the left hand side). Park at the church.
