Description

An easy 6.5 mile walk beginning at the Legh Arms in the lovely Cheshire village of Adlington.

Once we pass through a short sub-urban area, the first section of the walk takes us across lush green fields (possibly muddy) to the tiny hamlet of Whiteley Green. It is here we join the Macclesfield Canal for a 2 mile stroll along the canal’s towpath.

The return journey sees us walking along the Middlewood Way before returning over the fields to Adlington.

When we reconnoitred the walk it was muddy at various points along the way and therefore we recommend that you wear suitable footwear. It might also prove useful to bring something to sit on for when we make the usual stop for refreshments.

There are three pubs en route where we can stop if it’s the group’s collective decision. One of the pubs – the Miner’s Arms, marks the half-way point and it may be suitable for our main refreshment stop. A final libation may be had at the Legh Arms at the end of the walk.

Start time and meeting point

The walk will start at 12:00 pm at the parking loop adjacent to the Legh Arms. This is on the A523 travelling south from Hazel Grove. There should be sufficient parking for everyone.

Directions to start

The parking loop is on the left hand side, about two miles south of Poynton on the A523. The post code for the Legh Arms is SK10 4NA
