Autumn 2021 update – Christmas meal :: Hexham weekend :: Walks programme :: New members :: and more!

Festive meal :
There are still spaces available if anyone wants to join in the festivities at this year’s Out on Sunday Festive Meal. We missed out last year due to the lockdown so this year’s will be an extra special event with added sparkle and a chance to catch up with friends old and new.  As previously, the meal will be held at The Cosy Club in Manchester and the date for your diaries is Sunday 19 December (so no walk that day!)  Full details of the arrangements for the meal including menu are here: Festive meal 2021 .

Hexham weekend :
The annual OOS weekend away took place this year in mid September in the historic Northumbrian town of Hexham, with 17 members attending. In addition to some local sight seeing, the group enjoyed 2 delicious meals at local venues on the Friday and Saturday evenings. Two walks were organised: one on Saturday, a 6 mile circular walk along a section of Hadrian’s Wall to the Roman Fort at Housesteads, and on Sunday a flatter and less strenuous, but equally enjoyable, 5 mile circular by the river Tyne. A great weekend, enjoyed by everyone!  Have a look at some of the great photos of the weekend over in the OOG gallery here: Hexham photo gallery

Autumn / winter walks programme :
There are some gaps in the programme for walks later in the year and we’d love to hear from anyone who can offer a walk.  If anyone hasn’t led a walk before but would like to do so, please get in touch – either by email general@outonsunday.co.uk or by mentioning it on a walk – walk leaders will be happy to help you with organising the walk, while it sounds a bit of a faff it really isn’t so bad – we are also in the process of simplifying the walk details and risk assessment templates to make them easier to use.  At the moment the following dates are availble: 7 & 21 November and 5 & 26 December.  For details of the walks already planned, check out the annual programme here 2021 walks

Membership :
As of October 2021 the group has 79 full members including 9 new members since April and a further 5 trying out the group (new members can have three walks with us before being asked to contribute by paying a membership fee).  We’re also delighted that we have three new walk leaders this year – we’ve enjoyed their walks and hope that they will continue to lead more great walks next year – a big THANK YOU to Simon, Alan and Stephen.

2022 – The year ahead:
The very first formal Annual General Meeting of Out on Sunday will be held early in the new year and is an opportunity for all members to be involved in decisions regarding the group. At the AGM we will aim to (i) agree the walks programme for the year (ii) agree on a location for the 2022 weekend away (iii) elect committee members for the year and decide on any other matters that need to be agreed.  All full members (ie who have paid membership fee for 2021) are entitled to attend, vote and stand for election – full details will be published as soon as arrangements are finalised.
