Description
An easy to moderate, 6 mile circular walk, that goes through Walkers Fold Woods and over part of the Smithills Estate. Then joins Winter Hill, about half way up and follows a low gradient path that winds up to two of the Three Lads cairns for lunch (bring your own).
The route continues winding broadly up (maintaining a low gradient) with views of Rivington Pike in the distance, but falls short of the top of Winter Hill and continues down to a short bit of road, then back into woods before returning to the Car Park.
There is a flight of steps to climb near the beginning.
Bring lunch and drinks.
The woodland parts can be muddy so waterproof, anti-slip footwear is advisable.
Terrain is quite varied but is mostly established trails with moorland, woods and views from the hill.
