Description

This is a pleasant walk to visit Bramall Hall near Stockport, a fine Tudor mansion judged to be one of the four best black and white timber-framed mansions in England. A hall has stood on the site since the 14th century and some early work still survives in the current building. This is an easy 7.5 mile circular walk beginning at Poynton Park and lake, along well-marked paths and stiles through parkland, woods and some exclusive residential areas. It’s fairly flat walking but there may be some muddy sections especially after rain. The plan is to stop for a lunch break on the walk and a 45 min rest at the Hall (which is about three quarters of the way along the walk). This won’t be sufficient time to look inside the Hall but will allow walkers time to have a wander round the grounds and/or to visit the cafe. Please bring your lunch and drinks as there won’t be anywhere on the route, other than the cafe at the Hall (we’ll arrive here at approx 3pm).

Start Point and Time

Meet at 11.45am at Anglesey Drive car park, Poynton (nearest postcode is SK12 1BT). Parking is free but the car park is fairly small. I think it is possible to park on the road side a few metres further along Anglesey Drive. We will aim to arrive back at the start point by 5pm.

Directions to Start

The car park is situated on the A523 (London Road North), about 30 mins by car from Manchester city centre. Take the A6 from Stockport onto the A523 – Macclesfield Road which becomes London Road North. As you turn off the A523 onto the residential Anglesey Drive, the car park is immediately on the right.
