Walk description
This week’s walk is a repeat of one the group did in May 2019.
The walk begins and ends in the lovely Cheshire village of Bunbury. We will pass along quiet country lanes and through fields until reaching the visitor’s centre at Beeston Castle. There is a small cafe selling drinks, sausage rolls, sandwiches, etc. at the castle and we will stop there for approximately 20 – 30 minutes. On leaving the castle we will make a steady descent through three large fields to the Shropshire Union Canal where we join the canal towpath. After approximately 1.5 miles we will take our second refreshment stop (20 minutes max) at Beeston Locks. Please note that when we did the recce for this walk (two weeks ago) the canal towpath was quite slippery in places.
The walk will continue along the canal for a further mile and then we return to Bunbury via some by quiet country lanes. The first part of this section of the walk involves a steady climb up a protracted hill which is not overly steep.
The walk is 6.5 miles, and for the most part it is on flat terrain. There is likely to be some uneven ground at the beginning of the walk and we recommend that walkers should wear stout walking shoes

Start point and time
The start time is 12:30pm.
The walk will begin at Bowes Gate Road at the east end of the imposing parish church. There is a crescent-shaped lay-by where we can park our vehicles.

Directions to start
To get to the start point, take the M56 from Manchester travelling in the direction of Chester. Leave the M56 at junction 10 and follow the A49 Tarporley Road in a southerly direction towards Whitchurch. You stay on the A49 for some time and leave only when you see Bunbury signposted.
Head for the easily-seen parish church. The postcode for the church is CW6 9PN.
