Castleton and Mam Tor | 7 September 2025

The wet weather didn’t deter the 11 walkers who left the picturesque village of Castleton on today’s walk. We ascended the dramatic gorge of Cave Dale with views of the eleventh century Peveril Castle above us. On to the summit of Mam Tor (the Shivering Mountain) at 1695ft (517m) with its views into the Vale of Edale and the Hope Valley. After an, at times, tricky descent we returned to Castleton for welcome tea and cake.
