Description
This is a 7 mile walk along the River Dee from the estate village of the Duke of Westminster (Eccleston) into the city of Chester and back again down the old Duke’s Drive. After parking near St Mary’s church in the village, we walk to the river bank then turn left and head to the Meadows (open land). It could be wet under foot after heavy rain so walking shoes or boots are advisable. Leave the Meadows to walk over swing bridge and onto the Groves for a lunch stop. There are cafes and 2 pubs or simply bring your own lunch and sit on a bench. Toilets are 50p ! Leaving the Groves there is one flight of steps onto the walls and later a gentle incline up to the Castle and the Roodee. It’s then over the bridge and back to Eccleston with a woodland walk.
Start Point and Time
Eccleston village outside St Mary’s Church at 12:00
Leave at 12:15
