Chorlton Circular – 4 May 2025

A prompt start at 11:00 a.m. meant we set off from the Bowling Green pub with 17 walkers and 2 dogs, a further 3 walkers joining along the way.   Passing through the newly restored lychgate, we headed for Chorlton Park, and then on to Southern cemetery where we visited the graves of John Rylands and his equally famous wife Enriqueta who created the John Rylands library; Anthony Wilson of Hacienda fame and John Alcock of Alcock and Brown – the first aviators to cross the Atlantic in 1919.
After an ice cream stop (blue ice cream!) we continued along the south side of Chorlton Water Park, crossing the Mersey at Jackson’s Boat before negotiating the stepping stones and on to our lunch stop at Sale Water Park boat house.
Our walk continued around Sale Water Park with a brief stop Broad Dole Eees hide before re-crossing the Mersey, through the “fruits orchards” and following Chorlton Brook back to our start point for a well earned bevvy at the pub. A great 6.5 mile walk with lots of chat, bonding and laughter.  Thanks to Peter for a superb walk and to Terry for back marking.
