Description

A circular(ish), 7 mile walk (approximately) from Chorlton Ees car park to Chorlton Water park and Sale Water Park. The scenery includes forest, orchards, fields and the river.

The walk is flat and generally follows well-trodden paths. Bring a packed lunch and there are picnic benches at Sale Water Park overlooking the lake.

There will be a pub stop, for those interested, at Jackson’s Boat on the return-leg.  Walking boots/shoes are recommended. It may be muddy in parts. 

Start Point and Time  

Chorlton Ees Car Park, Brookburn Road, Chorlton, Manchester M21 8EH at 12.30 for 12.40 start. There is free parking at the car park though it is popular with walkers and first come first served. However, there is plenty of free parking nearby.

Directions to Start 

By public transport, get the East Didsbury tram from the City Centre and alight at Chorlton. Walk along Wilbraham Road (on your right) towards the centre of Chorlton and turn left on to Barlow Moor Road at the crossroads. Turn right on to Beech Road after Chorlton Bus Station. At the end of Beech Road, turn left on to Chorlton Green, walk past the Horse and Jockey pub and then on to Brookburn Road. The car park will be on your right.

If you are driving, head for Chorlton. If you are on the A5145 northbound into Chorlton from the Princess Road, turn left before Chorlton Bus Station, drive to the end of Beech Road, turn left, drive past the Jockey and Horses pub and turn left onto Brookburn Road. If you are driving from the city centre, head for Chorlton. At the crossroads, drive straight on to Barlow Moor Road (A5145). Turn right on to Beech Road after Chorlton Bus Station. At the end of Beech Road, turn left on to Chorlton Green, drive past the Horse and Jockey pub and then on to Brookburn Road. The car park will be on your right.
