After a rain soaked week leading up to the walk, eleven hardy walkers set out for the delightful village of Eccleston near Chester. Following a quick look at the graves of the deceased Dukes of Westminster and their families, the group made its way down a shady track to the beautiful banks of the River Dee and from there we made a stately progress towards the city of Chester. As we walked we delighted in the regatta which was taking place on the river and in the fabulous homes on the far side. We crossed the river at the famous Victorian chain bridge before settling down by the Riverside for our much needed refreshment stop. Having purchased ice creams and having spent some time watching the Sunday joggers and casual sightseers, the group set off again by ascending the steep steps leading up to the walkway along Chester’s famous Roman. We then passed over the Dukes Bridge before making our way back to the start of the walk via the very long and pleasantly wooded Dukes Drive.
