Chorlton Circular

May 4

Walk leader :  Peter W

Grading of walk :  Easy

Walk details :  From The Bowling Green Pub, Brookburn Road, Chorlton.  M21 9ES, this is an easy circular, essentially taking in a tour around Southern Cemetery to Sale and Chorlton Waterpark and alongside the River Mersey. There are a set of raised stones to ford a small brook, if you think you would have difficulties with this an alternative route is possible. Mainly well trodden and surfaced paths with a potential for some slightly muddy (rather than boggy) patches depending on rainfall. We will pass 3 public toilets, please use them rather than bushes as a busy route!… Did I mention the ice cream waggon?
The walk is approximately 6.5 miles (with the option to leave at Sale Waterpark Tram around half way).

Risk assessment :  A risk assessment was carried out 20 April 2025. A summary of identified risks is below:

We will be walking by lakes and a fast running deep river. Particular care should be taken to stay on the path and away from the waterside. The weather may affect paths so bring appropriate clothing and walking boots (essential). There may be wet and or slippery areas depending on weather. Take care. It is unlikely that we will encounter livestock, if we do the route may be modified. We pass next to a golf course, please do not enter and abide by warning signs. There may be cyclists or motor bikes. Please step aside to let them pass. Warn other walkers when you see them. Main roads and side streets to Chorlton Green: Please cross as a group after checking vehicles have stopped for us. Use Pelican crossing or pedestrian island when crossing Main roads. Warn other walkers if you see vehicles. There are a set of steps to cross a small brook. If you think you may have difficulties an alternative route is possible, pleas let Peter know in advance.
