Walk details : This is a moderate approximately six mile walk. For much of the walk we will follow well maintained paths, however, some of the shorter paths are uneven in parts. As we will be walking to both the Pigeon Loft and the Pike (tower), we will be climbing a number of steep but well maintained steps. If it is a clear day, we will be able to see Blackpool Tower in the distance. The walk is dog friendly, and there are no stiles or cattle grids to negotiate.
Risk assessment : A risk assessment was carried out 14/03/2025. A summary of identified risks is below:
We will be walking next to a small lake so care should be taken if it is slippery. Most of the paths are well maintained but short sections are uneven. Appropriate footwear will be required. To reach the Pike, we will climb some steep but well maintained steps. There are no hand rails on the steps. There is no livestock on this walk.
Start time and meeting point : We will meet at 12:00pm in the car park in front of The Great House Barn. The postcode is, BL6 7SB.
Directions to the start : On the M61 follow the signs for Preston. At junction 6 take the A6027 exit to Chorley. Exit onto De Havilland Way.
Parking: The Great House Barn car park is free. There is also free parking on the road opposite the Great Barn leading to the upper Barn.
