Walk leader/s : Chris B & Angel U
Grading of walk : Easy
Walk details : An easy circular, straightforward walk of approximately 7 miles. We will start in the lovely town of Lymm, walking towards the Bridgewater canal. We will follow the canal untill Grappenhall. Once we reach Grappenhall, we will have our lunch stop in the beautiful local church, which has a covered space and welcomes walkers. After lunch we will walk through Grappenhall, until we reach the Trans Pennine trail, which we will follow back to Lymm. The church, in Grappenhall is very welcoming. It is a quite interesting church, which deserves our visit. For those who would like to finish with a pint, there is a pub about half a mile before the finish point.
Risk assessment : A risk assessment was carried out on 02/04/2024. A summary of identified risks is below:-
We will walk by the canal for a while. The towpath is narrow in some parts and muddy. We recommend taking special care whilst walking besides the water. There are two short but slightly steep climbs. The Pennine Way has some muddy parts but recently has been resurfaced, but still could have some slippery spots. The length of the walk makes it moderately difficult, otherwise it is an easy walk. Although it is possible that some of the mud will dry up in warmer weather, we would recommend boots or wellingtons for this walk. Moreover, there are a few roads to cross, including a couple which are moderately busy.
Start time and meeting point : The walk will start at 12 noon at Statham Avenue Car Park. Parking: It is free, but there are quite limited parking spaces. There is also limited street parking, but we strongly recommend car sharing wherever possible. Post Code: WA13 9NL.
Directions to the start : From Manchester take the M56 to Junction 7 & and follow directions to Lymm, B5158/Cherry Lane. From the M6 take Junction 20 and follow directions to Lymm. Drive to Statham Ave from Cherry Ln/B5158 (about 2 miles).
what/three/words : ///innegables.troncales.pegajoso (Sorry for the Spanish!)
Public transport : We did not find trains to Lymm. The bus X5 from the Altrincham Interchange to the Lakeside Surgery stop leaves you at 0.5 mile from the starting point. The bus trip takes 25 min approximately, but the service on Sundays is very poor. Please consider car sharing and, if you are able, offer lifts to walkers without their own transport.

In these instances, a note will be added to the website at least TWO HOURS before the start time. So, do check the website before you set out, and if in doubt use the walk leader’s mobile contact number. Every effort will be made to contact you should a walk be cancelled
