Marbury Country Park

Grading of walk :  Easy

Walk details :  An easy 5 mile walk through beautiful woodlands past Budworth Mere on well defined paths. We will check at out a couple of bird viewing areas. One of these areas is up and down about 20 steps. Eventually we will reach the Anderton Boat Lift and visitor centre where there is a cafe. There is also a nearby pub, The Stanley Arms. We will stop for lunch in this area. Please bring your lunch and a drink and something to sit on in case it is wet. There may be time to visit the cafe or pub depending on how busy they are on the day. After lunch we continue along the Trent and Mersey Canal before re-entering the country park and returning to the car park.

Risk assessment :  A risk assessment was carried out 00/00/2024. A summary of identified risks is below:

As we walk along water at times please be aware and give way to passing cyclists and other walkers. The paths may be muddy if it as been been wet so please wear suitable footwear. We will climb up some steps about (20) approximately to a viewing area and then down so care should be taken here. Dogs are welcome but please put them on a lead when required. The car park where we start and end from may be busy so please be careful of traffic.

Start time and meeting point :  The walk will start at 12 noon. Meet in the main car park of Marbury Country Park. Postcode CW9 6AT.

Directions to the start :  Take the M56 to Junction 10 (the Stretton Roundabout) Take the 1st exit A559 Northwich Road. After approx 3 miles turn right onto Gibb Hill. Go down the hill and through the village of Comberbach continuing straight on to Marbury Road then turn left at the sign for Marbury Country Park.

Parking:  Marbury Country Park car park is pay and display £2.50 for all day. There is a machine that takes cards. Please bring cash as well just in case.

Public transport :  This walk is not accessible by public transport so please car share and offer lifts if possible.
