Walk details : A lovely varied 5 mile circuit with stunning views of Pendle Hill, the Ribble Valley, the Bowland Fells, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and Blackpool Tower(on a good day!). With woodland and Dean Clough reservoir, there should be some wildlife too, a deer on this visit.
The route is on minor roads, tracks and well maintained footpaths with 3 short hill climbs and 1 stile.
Risk assessment : A risk assessment was carried out 02/07/2025. A summary of identified risks is below:
The first mile is on a quiet narrow minor road. (one vehicle today) There is a second half mile road walk later on. The group will be advised to take care here.
Start time and meeting point : Meet at 12.30 outside The Lord Nelson pub in hamlet of York. GR 711 336. Postcode BB6 8DU. The pub opens at midday and is said to do good bacon butties and coffee. It also offers full meals through the day. No refreshments en route
Directions to the start : The shortest, slightly more complicated but prettier route is to leave the M65 at J7 and head for Rishton. At traffic lights just before the church turn right on B6535. Turn left after 1 mile on a sharp RH bend onto Wilpshire Rd. Turn right at Spice Lounge. After 1/4 mile take right fork.
Alternatively head 5 miles west from Whalley on the A666 and in the centre of Langho turn left uphill for 1/2 mile to York Village.
Parking: Roadside parking limited near the pub and in the hamlet itself (please park with consideration). However there is plenty of space not far from the pub itself.
