Last Sunday nineteen walkers assembled outside the Bears Paw public house at Frodsham, ready to make the ascent of Overton Hill for the start of this week’s 7 mile walk. On reaching the summit the group was afforded magnificent views over the Mersey estuary to Liverpool, across to Rivington Pike north of Bolton and over to the west towards the Welsh mountains. We departed the summit by passing through broad leaf woodlands until reaching a grassy knoll for our much anticipated lunch stop. Suitably refreshed, the group set off again by traversing a stunning wooded dell which emerged onto rough pasture. We then took a short stretch of quiet country road before joining rover’s tracks and more field paths. The final stretch offered more great views of the Mersey and a fairly speedy descent back into Frodsham via several tracks consisting of ancient and steep sandstone steps. A sense of achievement (or at least relief) pervaded the group as we approached the pub from where we started earlier and it soon became clear that liquid sustenance was going to be required to round off this well-received walk.
