Description

This is an easy, mainly flat 5 mile walk (one small incline near the end). It starts at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre (OL15 0AQ) and takes in part of the Rochdale Canal, as well as around part of the Lake itself. Sections of the route may be muddy if there has been recent rainfall, so good walking shoes are recommended. There will be a brief stop for lunch at a suitable halfway point. There is also a good cafe in the Visitors Centre at the end of the walk, selling hot drinks and a selection of hot and cold food (I recommend a stop there).

Start Point and Time

Meet at the Visitor Centre at 12.30pm

Directions to Start

The start point can be reached from Junction 21 (Milnrow) of the M62, from which the Lake is signed. Go past the shops at the Lakeside and turn right at the Wine Press Bistro. The Visitors Centre and car park are 100 yards on the left. There is plenty of parking (£2 for up to 4 hours), but I suggest that you buy your ticket at the machine on the way in.

There are also regular trains to Littleborough Station from Victoria, taking about 25 mins. As we pass the Station en route, you could join the walk there, or arrange to be picked up and taken to the Visitors Centre.
