Description

Lymm is in Cheshire. This is an easy, flat walk (OK, there are a couple of flights of steps with handrails…) along well maintained footpaths and is about 5 miles in length. The walk takes in part of the Trans Pennine Trail, the Bridgewater Canal, and passes through Lymm village and around Lymm Dam.

Eating & drinking: We pass through Lymm village twice (on way to and back from Dam). There’s a Sainsbury’s Local plus a bakery/deli here plus various other posh eateries. There are also a couple of pubs, one of which has a beer garden although this has a ‘no dogs allowed’ sign. Suggest we have lunch at the picnic areas surrounding the Dam, so bring sandwiches or buy them as we pass through Lymm village. We can visit the pub on the way back if people want. There’s an ice cream van at Lymm Dam (!)

Footwear: Boots not strictly necessary due to well maintained footpaths, but you might choose to wear them if the weather is bad (route round Dam could be muddy in places).

Directions to start

From M6 J20 look for the small sign for Lymm B5158 and take that road. Stay on this road, following it round to the right when you’re faced with a no entry sign until you reach a T junction. Turn left towards Warrington. Progress along this road for a short while and look out for an old garage forecourt that’s now a car wash place on the right hand side of the road. This has yellow signage that you’ll be able to see from a distance. There are also bus stops on either side of the road just before the car wash. Turn right into Princess Road just before the bus stop. This is a residential estate but you should be able to park here no problem.

Sat Nav users : Postcode for Princess Road is WA13 0EH.

Start Point and Time

Meet at 12pm. Walk past the car wash on your right hand side, cross the bridge and we will meet on the path leading down to the canal.
