Description
A fairly easy, in most parts, 7 mile circular walk from Moses Gate Country Park, Hall Lane, Farnworth, BL4 3DN along the historic Manchester/Bolton/Bury canal and the River Irwell but there is a steep climb from Moses Gate itself up to the Canal towpath and a very steep downward narrow and unmade path after the lunch stop through a wooded area, with several fallen trees over the track, which some may find treacherous particularly if muddy. The canal was being partially restored by volunteers but work seems to have stopped and nature is reclaiming their efforts.  Please take care when walking along the canal tow path which may be slippery. The walk encompasses pleasant woodland and views over open countryside.
Please be aware that the walk route crosses two fairly busy roads where extreme caution should be taken.
Please bring a packed lunch and something to sit on as we shall stop at a point where we cross the River Irwell and there is no seating available.
We shall pass, towards the end of the walk, the Horseshoe Pub at Ringley where we can stop for a drink.
Walking boots are recommended as the going can be muddy.
