This is an easy, flat walk along the promenade and coast via Bispham, Cleveleys and Rossall to Fleetwood. It is approx 7.5 miles and we return to the start point by tram. If you don’t fancy the whole walk, you can return by tram from Cleveleys or other points along the route. There is plenty to see along the route – sculptures, formal gardens and stunning sea views of course.

Description

Our first stop will be at the highly recommended Kay’s Chippy just off the seafront in Cleveleys for fish n chips – they offer eat-in or take away and its dog friendly. Or bring your own lunch to eat on the seafront. We’ll stop here for approx 45 mins.

Our next stop will be at Rossall Point observatory and time permitting, we will have a look inside as it has educational info about the coast and viewing decks for bird watching and views over Morecambe Bay and beyond. (open  till 4pm). It’s free entry.

Finally, we arrive at Fleetwood at approx 5pm for our return journey by tram to Blackpool. The fare is £2.50 and 50p for dogs! There is a tea/coffee hut at Fleetwood for take away drinks or ice lollies, should it be hot and sunny!

There are toilets along the route but there may be a charge for some of these. Please wear sensible shoes/trainers etc – walking boots are not really necessary. But you might need sun lotion or rain wear just to cover all bases! Don’t forget it will be exposed and possibly windy so appropriate clothing will be required, including ‘kiss-me-quick’ hats! I suggest you also bring a drink for the route as we won’t be stopping at any shops between the start and lunch and after lunch stop until we get to Fleetwood.

Start Point and Time

Meet at 11.45am infront of the Hilton Hotel (North Promenade Seafront, Blackpool) on the promenade side. Postcode for the Hilton Hotel is FY1 2JQ. Map

Directions to Start

From central Manchester, allow about 1 hr 15 mins for your journey. The M60/M61, M6 and M55 will take you to Blackpool and then follow signs for Blackpool North/North promenade. The Hilton Hotel is a big, sprawling, modern, red-brick hotel – a bit of a monstrosity – you can’t miss it!

Parking – there is ample on street parking at the side and back of the Hilton Hotel and Imperial Hotel nearby (Dickson Road/Derby Road/Wilton Parade). I think it is free on Sunday.

By train – direct from Manchester Piccadilly at 9.47am, arriving at Blackpool North train station just after 11am and return trains at 5.40pm and 6.11pm. The return fare is approx £13.00. Please allow about 10-15 mins to walk from the station to the Hilton Hotel. (There are trains from Manchester Victoria but there may still be disruption at the station after the Manchester Arena bombing.) Please check National Rail Enquiries for upto date train times and fare info.
