Description

This is an easy linear walk from Todmorden to Hebden Bridge along the Rochdale Canal with both urban and countryside views. We’ll return to Todmorden by train.

As the walk is fairly short – approx 4 miles and should take us no more than a couple of hours, I propose that we visit a pub or cafe in Hebden Bridge for lunch at about 3pm.(I’m not proposing to stop anywhere along route for a lunch break.) Options for lunch are The Stubbins Wharf Pub situated on the canal, or The Shoulder of Mutton Pub or Lamppost Cafe – both in the centre of Hebden Bridge – all venues are dog friendly.

The walk along the canal towpath is flat but muddy in places so boots or sturdy shoes recommended, as are waterproofs/brollies etc incase of rain/wind.

For our return to the start point – trains from Hebden Bridge to Todmorden run hourly; the cost of a one-way ticket is just under two pounds and the journey takes about 8 mins. (We’ll aim for the 4.43pm train or those who wish to head back earlier can do so.)

Sunday is market day in Todmorden – you might wish to arrive early so you can have a wander round. There are a number of cafes etc if you require breakfast/cuppa. This should be a nice easy walk to start the year! Let’s hope for good weather.
