A circular five mile walk from Rivington Great House Barn up to Yarrow reservoir (not the Pike). The walk heads north through the woods alongside the Lower Rivington reservoir then turns left across the bridge and right alongside the Upper Rivington reservoir before crossing the upper dam and around Yarrow reservoir. Lunch stop sitting on the bank overlooking the reservoir, and then the return leg up through Dean Wood nature reserve and back via Sheep House Lane and over the field to Rivington barn and descending to the start point.
A good variety of waterside, woodland, and parkland landscapes.
This walk is five miles and has a total ascent of 500 ft – it is mostly flat though involves a couple of very short steep ascents.
Opportunity for tea and cake stop at the end at Rivington Great House Barn.

Changes and cancellation
In the event that there are any changes to the regulations (for example a further lockdown) before the walk, which means that it will not be able to proceed, an email will be sent to everyone booked on the walk. Very occasionally, due to severe weather or another serious event, a walk may be cancelled. In these instances, a note will be added to the website at least TWO hours before Start Time. So, do check the website before you set out, and if in doubt use the walk leader’s mobile contact number.
If you need to cancel contact general@outonsunday.co.uk. If it’s on the day please call the Walk Leader instead.
At the time of publication restrictions were being revised, but for now, until we have confirmation of the changes …………..
Remember that social distancing applies throughout the walk, and bring face covering and hand sanitiser, just in case. If you are car-sharing or using public transport, follow the relevant rules and guidance.
