Festive meal :
29 members attended the annual festive meal at Cosy Club Manchester on 19 December. A great time was had by all and it was good to be able to meet up once again as we were unable to meet in 2020.  There are a few photos of the revellers in the gallery. If you have any you’d like to share please send them in.

Annual General Meeting 2021 :
The group’s very first AGM was held at the Holiday Inn, Aytoun Street on 31 January.  Attended by 18 members, we were able to agree on a walks programme for the year as well as a location for the summer weekend away (see below) and also to appoint the new management committee for the group.  The members of the committee are : Geraint Watkins (Chair); Phil Gledhill (Treasurer); Colin Petts & Cliff Brooks (Joint Secretaries); David Rhodes; Linda Medhurst and Andrew Jenkins (Trustees).  Patrick Pope stood down as Treasurer – huge thanks due to Patrick for doing this for so many years.  The minutes of the AGM as well as the Treasurer’s Report and Annual Report are now available on the website here.

Winter / spring walks programme :
We have completed the first three walks of the year and at the moment there are a further 38 walks planned for the rest of the year – the first of which will be at Dunham Massey on 6 March – details to follow shortly.  In April we ramp up the walk programme to weekly walks and this year we have walks planned for every Sunday from 10 April until 6 November except Easter Sunday and Manchester Pride weekend (both those dates are available should anyone wish to lead a walk).  Details of the walk programme so far are here so keep checking back for any additions or alterations to the programme.  As always we are very keen to encourage new walk leaders to offer walks so if you’re interested please get in touch or just chat with any of the walk leaders.

Weekend away 2022 :
This September we’re off to Llangollen in the beautiful Dee valley in North Wales.  It promises to be a great weekend – several members are already signed up and have booked accommodation.  As well as walks on Saturday and Sunday there will be a group dinner on Saturday evening and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the attractions the town and surrounding area has to offer – something for everyone!  Colin and Cliff have volunteered to co-ordinate the planning of the weekend and will be visiting Llangollen to ensure that the locals are ready for us.  Planning is at an early stage at the moment but there is further information here and further details will be published on the website as they become available.

Pride events :
The management committee met for the first time on 22 February and one of the items discussed was participation in local pride events.  The four events identified as events we might participate in are Bury; Salford; Didsbury and Levenshulme.  Participation will obviously depend on costs involved and resources needed but we think it woud be a good way to raise our profile locally and encourage new members. More information, dates and plans to follow in due course.

WhatsApp :
Just a reminder that we have an active WhatsApp group for all walkers – if you’re not in it you’re missing out!  There’s more information on the website here – please read before you join the group.
