Walk details : This is a lovely, varied 4 mile walk starting in the village of Disley. As we leave the village we head for Disley Golf course and then along country lanes and field paths before joining the Peak Forest Canal for the return to Disley.

While this is a short, winter walk, it is fairly challenging in places with steep inclines and descents and some very uneven ground. Some of the footpaths are quite narrow in places and there are a number of stiles to negotiate. The reward for the climb are the views out towards the Peak District and from the Peak Forest Canal towpath.

As this is a short walk, we will take a short refreshment stop when we reach the canal. We will then have our sandwiches etc. by Disley Village War Memorial at the end of the walk.

You are welcome to join us at the Dandy Cock pub for a post-walk drink afterwards.

Risk assessment : A Risk Assessment was carried out on 29th January 2022. A summary of identified risks is below:-
COVID-19 – Please follow current guidance
Weather – February can be wet and cold so bring appropriate clothing. We will also be fairly high up at times.
Roads – We have to cross the very busy A6 at the start and end of the walk, so care is needed.
Terrain – This walk has a couple of steep inclines and descents and the footpath through Disley Golf Course is somewhat uneven. The route maybe muddy in places so walking boots are recommended. Some of the footpaths are quite narrow and there are a number of stiles to negotiate.
Water – We will be walking along the canal towpath but the towpath is wide with a good surface so any hazard is reduced.
Golf Course – Care is needed on the footpath through Disley Golf Course as we have to cross some fairways.
Livestock – We may be passing through fields of sheep, so dogs on a lead please.
The walk leader will remind walkers at appropriate points on the walk.
