Description

This is an easy one-way walk from Todmorden to Hebden Bridge along the Rochdale Canal with both urban and countryside views. We’ll return to Todmorden by train. On arrival in Hebden Bridge we’ll join the in the FUN at the Pink Picnic and Dog Show which is the last day of Happy Valley Pride

The walk is approx 5 miles and should take us about 2.5 hours at most. We won’t stop along the route for lunch as we’ll aim to make the Pink Picnic our lunch stop. We should arrive at about 2pm – the picnic and dog show runs 12pm – 5pm. Bring your own lunch and a picnic blanket (and a dog if you have one!) – its a really lovely atmosphere. The picnic is free to attend, family-friendly and takes place in Hebden Bridge Park in the centre of the town – close to the train station.

The walk along the canal towpath is flat but can be muddy after rain so sensible/sturdy shoes recommended (no sling backs!), as are waterproofs/brollies etc incase of rain.

If you don’t fancy the walk from Todmorden, why not get the train to Hebden Bridge and either walk back along the canal for a short walk to meet us at the Stubbing Wharf pub on the outskirts of Hebden or meet us at the Pink Picnic. Let us know if you plan to do either of these so that we will know to wait/look out for you.

We’ll return to Todmorden by train but won’t set a return time to allow people to enjoy the picnic and other Pride festivities. Return trains are approx 10 mins past the hour from 3.10pm. The journey takes 7 mins and the single fare is £2.50.

Start time and meeting point

Meet at 11.30am at Todmorden train station. Parking is free for passengers and as we’ll be returning to Todmorden by train, that includes us. If you are not walking but aim to meet us in Hebden – I suggest that you park in Todmorden and travel by train to Hebden – it will be very busy because of Pride and parking will be a nightmare! There are trains from Todmorden at 10.59am or 11.58am.

Directions to Start

Todmorden is in West Yorkshire and located on the A6033 and can be accessed via the M60/M62 or A62 which connect with the A6033. Nearest postcode for the train station is OL14 7AA. From Manchester the journey time is approx 50 mins.

For those wishing to travel by train from Manchester there is a train from Victoria at 10.30am, arriving in Todmorden at 11am.
