This year’s Weekend Away will be from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 June and the location is Coniston. We last visited the Lake District in 2008 when we had a lovely trip to Keswick and Derwentwater. Veterans will remember our conquering of Catbells!
The weekend usually takes the form of
Friday: Visit to a local place of interest for those arriving early. Then informal meet up in a local pub as others arrive in the evening
Saturday: The main walk starting around 11.00 and ending about 16.00. In the evening we have a group meal together
Sunday: A shorter walk to enable people to leave for home or stay on and get together for a late Sunday lunch
For anyone looking for activities in addition to or instead of walks, the area has many attractions: including boats on the lake; National Trust properties; and Hawkshead and Ambleside are just a few miles away.
We’ll post more details as plans develop and we will be asking for numbers for the group meal shortly. In the meantime, if you are intending to come along you might want to book your accommodation. We have timed the weekend to avoid the school holidays but Coniston is a popular location. We aren’t recommending any particular places to stay but you might want to look at the following:
