Walk leader : Richard Sandover

Description :  A 5/6 mile walk from Whaley Bridge station up to Fernilee Reservoir and returning on the other side of the river Goyt.

There is a great variety of beautiful landscape through woods, besides the river, across meadows, and finally up to the reservoir. The walk traverses through the village of Taxal and then on through the nature reserve of Hillsbridge Wood, and on through Knipe. A stop for lunch is included at the head of the reservoir where there are splendid views across the valley.

Some very moderate ascents up to the reservoir (about 500 ft. in total) though no serious hill climbing involved. Dogs are welcome; they would need to be on a lead for some of the walk. There will be a pub stop at the end of the walk at The Cock Inn in Whaley Bridge, or alternatively there is a small café opposite the station though it does not have any indoor seating.

Walking boots/shoes essential, it will be very muddy in parts. Please bring a packed lunch as there are not any cafes/shops en route.

News- given the closure of the trail across the dam at Toddbrook reservoir following the recent potential breach, we will have to start and finish the walk with a short walk through the town. If you want to make a contribution to shoring up the dam please bring some hardcore!

Start time and meeting point : Whaley Bridge Railway station car park, 12.30 for 12.40 start. Postcode: SK23 7AA

There is free parking at the station though it is very limited and on a first come first served basis. However, if you cannot get a place here, there is plenty of free road parking on the main road running through the town.

Directions to start : From the north take the A6 South and turn off right towards Whaley Bridge after passing Furness Vale. From the south, the A500 Buxton Rd goes through the town. By Train, direct from Piccadilly Station, there is a train that departs at 11:49 which arrives at 12:30.
