Worsley to Parr Fold Park – 25 May 2025

With weather slightly better than predicted, we started our walk at Worsley Delph – historic as the site of the first canal used in the Industrial Revolution. We negotiated the gnarly paths of Worsley Woods (sadly we´d just missed the wild garlic season!), passing the Aviary (once a hunting lodge for the Earl of Ellesmere), before arriving at Beesley Green… where we realised the route took us past a group member´s front door!
We took the Tyldesley Loopline towards Bedford Fields, crossed over to Parr Fold Park, passing some beautiful houses which date back to 1715. We stopped for lunch at the park pavilion (buying a variety of high-calorie snacks), then passed a funfair to get to the Astley Loopline. We followed this to the beautiful Roe Green, took a stroll round the area before rejoining the Loopline to head back to Worsley Green. A round of drinks later, the walk was done!
Lovely crowd, a little sunshine and lots of greenery made for a very pleasant walk!
