Walk details : This is a pleasant 6.5 mile (10.5 km) walk with takes us from the attractive village of Gawsworth, passed St. James church and Gawsworth hall into the surrounding countyside. We make our way along field paths and a country lane to join the Macclesfield canal. Before we leave the canal we will take our lunch stop at one of the canal locks. From the canal we continue along quite country lanes before returning to the Gawsworth across fields with views of the church as we near the end. There are no cafes near to the start or on the route so please bring your own food and drink. We will be visiting the excellent Harrington Arms at the end of the walk.
Risk assessment : A risk assessment was carried out. A summary of identified risks is below:-
Accessibility – there are a number of styles throughout this walk to negotiate.
Terrain – the field paths are uneven in places and be prepared for muddy conditions. Walking boots are recommended.
Roads – we will be walking along some quite county lanes. Walkers are asked to walk on the right facing any oncoming traffic where possible.
Livestock – both sheep and cattle so Alfie on a lead while passing through these.
Water – the canal towpath is quite narrow in places and will pass through some fishing pools towards the end so care is needed.
The walk leader will remind walkers of any additional risk which may be encountered at appropriate points on the walk.

Directions to the start : From Manchester take the A34 then the A537 Chelford Road towards Macclesfield. At the traffic lights turn right onto Gawsworth road. Follow signs for Gawsworth village. Recommend use of What3words to get to the start. Parking: There is ample parking along Church Lane.
