Walk details : A fairly easy 7 mile circular walk through countryside and along canal towpaths.
We start the walk from the car park and after around half a mile we climb up a steep bank for approximately 100 yards to the canal towpath. We walk on past the ornate Meccano style bridge for around 3 and half miles before walking down the path to reach a bridge that takes us over the River Croal where we cross over the bridge and stop for our lunch break. Please bring something to eat and drink and a mat to sit on as the grass will likely be very wet.
We then continue downhill through a wooded area crossing a very busy road and then climbing some steps to another very busy road which we cross and then join the canal towpath for another couple of miles or so before reaching the country park and making our way back to our cars.

There are a couple of short steep climbs up and down to the canal towpaths and there are two very busy roads to cross so please be aware and take extra care.
As we are walking near water please take extra care.
The paths will more than likely be very wet and slippery so please wear suitable footwear. There is one fairly short downhill path which may be slippery and the path uneven with tree roots etc so please take extra care with your footing. A walking pole would be useful for sections of this walk.
As we are walking along the towpaths please be mindful of other walkers and cyclists that use the same path and be courteous and give way when necessary. Dogs are welcome and there are no livestock but please use the lead when appropriate.
Start time and meeting point : Meeting time 12 noon. Moses Gate Country Park Car Park BL4 7QS. We will be meeting in the lower Car Park.
Directions to the start : Leave the A666 at the Farnworth turn off. Drive through Farnworth on Bolton Road until you reach the A666 again where just before the traffic lights you turn right on Loxham Road and after a few hundred yards turn right again into Hall Lane which leads into the Moses Gate Country Park. Aim to park at the bottom left hand side of the car park where we all will meet.
Parking: Parking at Moses Gate Country Park Car Park is free.
