Ramsbottom circular – This walk is cancelled

September 15

Walk leader :   Linda M

Grading of walk :  Moderate

Walk details :  This is a 5 1/2 mile circular walk starting and ending at Ramsbottom Station, taking in Holcombe and Summerseat. The walk takes us through woodland, along the banks of both the River Irwell and Holcombe Brook.  It contains some moderate inclines, especially at the start of the walk.  The terrain is variable with a mix of pavements, woodland paths, cobbled lanes and some narrow footpaths.  There will be a lunch stop at the side of the Irwell – remember to bring something to sit on.
This is a walk suitable for dogs on leads.
Boots or sturdy shoes are a must due to the presence of mud and leaves along some of the paths.

Risk assessment :  A risk assessment was carried out 9 Sep 2024.  A summary of identified risks is below:

There are a couple of main roads to cross, but there are appropriate signaled crossing points.
Some of the lanes are accessible to cars so we need to be vigilant.
As we leave Holcombe Brook valley the path becomes narrow with a drop to the brook on the right.
